Head of Engineering

Job Overview:
This role will provide operational and strategic engineering service, maintain operational reliability, and develop engineering solutions to meet the current and future needs of our customers; provide strategic development and maintenance of the Energy Management strategy and processes across the data centre. The Head of Engineering will be responsible for the strategic development of the Engineering function and to ensure high level engineering services support is provided 24/7.

Key tasks:
  • Leads Engineering team delivering new infrastructure projects, plant upgrades, energy efficiency projects and integration of new acquisitions.
  • Lead financial activities such as detailed bottoms-up budget generation and ongoing forecasts, purchase decision evaluation and due diligence throughout capital and expense activities (CAPEX).
  • Initiate and encourage activities to improve quality and efficiency in service delivery.  Take the lead in the continuous improvement of the technical infrastructure.
  • Provide the strategic direction for development of Engineering Operations requirements, including costs, timetable and budgets.
  • To oversee all Board approved capital repairs and maintenance within agreed budgets, based on development requirements and essential works requirements.
  • To liaise with the Operations Director to define Service Level Agreements for building performance for both internal and external customer Service Level Agreements.
  • Contributing to Company’s Energy strategy and planning focussing particularly on cost saving and energy waste reduction.

Essential requirements:
  • Significant experience in engineering, maintenance and operations, preferably in mission-critical Data Centre construction.
  • A degree BSc or MSc in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), with equivalent combination of technical training plus proven experience / knowledge of construction, design, finance and management.
  • Able to demonstrate in depth industry knowledge of all aspects of design, construction and operation of mission-critical facilities
  • Thorough knowledge of building codes and life safety codes across EMEA region.
  • Ability to compose technical papers and position papers for publication
  • Experience managing multi-disciplined technical teams
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, exceptional communication, negotiation and analytical skills
